Certosa di San Lorenzo
Built starting from the 14th century, the Certosa di San Lorenzo is defined as "the most beautiful Baroque monument in Southern Italy".
A few steps from the Pertosa-Auletta Caves, just an hour from the Cilento coast, the Certosa di Padula, declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1998, is an essential stop for those who visit Cilento. It is the largest Certosa in Italy and preserves works of the highest artistic value left by the Carthusian monks for over 450 years.
The guided tour lasts about 1:30 h; we start from the outside with an introduction to the beautiful facade and the productive spaces of the courtyard, and then move on to the internal rooms where works of inestimable artistic value are kept. For example, the precious inlays of the wooden choir, the stuccoes and Baroque paintings, the altars made in the refined scagliola technique, the marble floors, the "Vanvitellian" staircase and the spiral stone staircase.
